The Soup Bowl

During the week, 'The Soup Bowl', managed by 'time for you' and staffed by a committed team of St Margaret's volunteers, is at the heart of life at St Margaret's.

Situated in the Main Hall of the church building, right next door to the beautiful worship area, the cafe is an attractive, warm and relaxing place to spend an hour or two with friends or colleagues, or to snatch a few moments of solitary peace and quiet.  As a place of welcome and simple refreshment, it has often been referred to by our customers as somewhere to experience sanctuary and renewal.  Certainly, the volunteer team and 'time for you' very much see the purpose of the cafe as a place where everyone is to be made to feel accepted and affirmed, and from which customers depart all the better for a visit to us - and not just because they have been well fed with good homemade nourishing food!

The 'time for you' team sometimes calls 'The Soup Bowl' a LISTENING cafe because the volunteers who run it seek to listen and respond to more than just the physical hunger of their customers!

Opening Hours

The cafe is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am until 2pm.

Our Menu

We offer simple entirely homemade fare at very reasonable prices.  St Margaret's Parish Church Scotswood

This includes generous bowls of nourishing soup made with fresh vegetables by the Vicar - who is also part of the 'time for you' team - at only £2.00.  Our most popular flavours include cream of leek & orange, lentil & tomato and cream of spinach and courgette (Popeye soup!)

We also make a variety of sandwiches to order - either baguettes, ciabattas or wholemeal varieties, all served with a generous side salad, for under £2.00 each.

Our cheese scones at only 85p are pretty famous too - both for their size and quality - and are best eaten whilst hot out of the oven at approaching 11am each day!

And last, but certainly not least, our homemade cakes are served in huge portions and feature traditional coffee and chocolate sponges, alongside rich carrot and moist banana and old-fashioned ginger loaf served with butter!

BUY ANY OF THESE ITEMS TO EAT IN OR TO TAKE AWAY!

Catering for groups

We will also happily cater for advance group bookings.  These can take place either during normal cafe hours or, by arrangement with the 'time for you' manager, at other times in the week for those who are using other parts of the church building.  This includes those who choose to rent out the St Margaret's community room, the Elliott Room.  A slightly wider menu is offered for advance bookings, including vegetarian options.
