Welcome to St Margaret's, Scotswood! 

Welcome to the website of St Margaret's Parish Church, Scotswood in the west end of the City of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The west end of Newcastle includes some of the most deprived parts of the City and, within it, Scotswood's own mixed history has been dominated by two features: at times turbulence, but always a strong sense of community.  It was this sense of community that kept local people believing in the possibility of a better future during the difficult times. 

Now Scotswood is reaching out for that better future as what remains of the old community fast moves into the first stages of a major regeneration programme that will eventually see new buildings, new businesses and new people join it.  St Margaret's seeks to be at the heart of this process of old and new coming together.

St Margaret's is made up of a vibrant community of Christians of all ages who are seeking to serve each other, the local community and the world in the name of Christ.

We are constantly striving to do our best to share the good news of the Christian Gospel.  We do this by pursuing a wide variety of activities that are meant to support and encourage better and more fulfilling lives, not just for ourselves but for all with whom we come into contact.

St Margaret's has as its home a very surprising building. 

From the outside, our building appears almost entirely to be a traditional Victorian church.  Once through the main door, however, visitors experience something quite different.  This is because, in the year 2000, following a major fundraising campaign, the building underwent an exciting conversion project that introduced both first and second floors and created a variety of rooms of different sizes, suited to different purposes, alongside retaining a very beautiful worship area.  The new interior is entirely disability friendly,with ramps throughout and a lift.  It is, in fact, truly a twenty-first century place to be!
